Zach Braff: Asking fans for money to fund his new movie via Kickstarter!
Scrubs actor Zach Braff has come under fire after asking his fans for money to help fund his new movie, Wish I Was Here via the Kickstarter website. Despite the success of his first movie, Garden State, the actor is asking for backing and already has received $1.7M. He was perhaps inspired by the success of the cancelled Veronica Mars show project that was able to get $5.7M from fans wanting to see the show return.
The website is a platform for artists to ask for funding towards their creative projects and Zach himself has been a contributor for other artists’ work. The actor has a goal of getting $2M in 30 days but his approach has annoyed many fans and users on social networking sites. He’s reported to have defended himself in an interview to The LA Times about the angry tweets asking why he isn’t able to fund the movie himself:
“People seem to think I have Oprah Winfrey money. I’ve done well in my career, but I am not sitting on $22 million.”
The movie is about a struggling actor who is still trying to find his purpose in life while being a father and husband. Fellow Srcubs co-star Donald Faison is reported to make a cameo appearance.
